Tell us about yourself: I am 43 and have been married to my husband Kraig for 20 years in July. We have two kids. Casey is 19 and attending BSU and Maximus will be 11 in June. We own HRP Small Engine and Power Sport Repair and I work full time at Nortech Systems as their scheduler. I love music. I sing, play piano and a little guitar. The voice is my main instrument. I'm a goofball and competitive and I can cry on command, which is super annoying.
What made you start CrossFit? CrossFit was introduced to me through my roller derby team. I watched you tube videos of the competitions and was just amazed at how many women were involved and how strong they all were. I also have always loved lifting weights and this seemed like a great way to start.
What are you most thankful for since starting? I am thankful for a few things. First of how strong I have become and the hurdles I have gotten past since starting. I used to have a really hard time breathing doing any sort of cardio. Now for the most part I have that under control. Being a part of a new community that really supports one another. Not only the athletes but all the coaches are amazing. Last but not least I am able to still hang out with some of my roller derby family now that I am retired.
What impact has CrossFit had on your life in and out of the gym? I am more confident and I have more energy. I no longer look at my arms as being freakishly big!
What are your goals and how close are you to reaching them? I have so many goals....I do want to compete some day but I have a long ways to go to get over my injuries (not CrossFit related!) I want to be able to Snatch 100 pounds. Climb the rope. Kipping pull-ups.....oh and kipping handstand pushups because doing them strict all the time takes so much effort!! As far as how far am I away from these goals? It's really hard to say. I feel like I should be able to get some of these before I'm fifty!
One thing you'd say to someone who is thinking about starting CrossFit? Don't think about it just do it!
What was your biggest misconception about CrossFit? I thought everyone would have 1% body fat and biceps as big as my head.....just kidding. Honestly I didn't really have any misconceptions because I didn't really know a lot about it.
Favorite Movement/Workout? My favorite movement is clean and jerks. Anything lifting heavy weights really....My favorite workouts are anything including rowing and a bar movement........this girl just isn't a runner.....yet.
Have your eating habits improved? If so, how? I was improving my eating habits before I started CrossFit. Now it's finding the balance of making sure I eat enough before and after I work out. Carbs scare me so I have learned a lot about good carbs versus bad carbs and that it's ok to eat pizza every once in awhile!
