I'd like to introduce you to...

Please take a moment to get to know our trainers!  We are very proud of our team and each one of them has something special and unique that they offer.  Most importantly, they all have a passion for health and wellness and it shows in how they coach and interact with the athletes.  We are all here for you!

I have a huge passion for health and wellness...mostly helping people get informed and motivated for the right reasons! My own health and wellness issues began after I got married and slowly gained 60 pounds by emotional eating and not paying attention to my self care.  I was a heavy smoker for many years along with eating junk food so I was always tired and felt like crap.  I was a little ashamed and I knew that I needed to make changes for myself, and also for my family because I wanted to be healthy and happy and lead by example.  So I slowly made changes by researching and connecting with people that led a lifestyle that interested me, and it has taken many years to get where I am now and I still have a lot of work to do.

My husband and I started a machining/welding/repair business in 2003 (Boyer Mechanical Services, Inc.) and we worked very well together growing it until recently making the decision for a career change to an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. This change has also brought us to CrossFit Bemidji, which we are now the proud owners of!  What a perfect way to get my community healthy!!  I live a full, busy, active life - filled with people I love, things I like to do, boating, fishing, cooking, laughing, exercise, gardening, and running here and there. If you are reading this, it probably sounds very similar to your life. There are a lot more stories I could plug in here which has brought me to this place and stage of my life but just know that I’m about as ‘real’ a person you’ll ever meet.   I can't wait to meet you!

Owner of CFB, CF-L1, Certified Health Coach

Well, where do I start? I'm Matt, and I'm fairly new to the sport, I've only been involved in it since September of 2017. From the first class I tried, I knew there was something very different about this type of fitness. After about a month of training, I had totally 'drank the kool-aid' and was hooked. And 8 months later, my wife and I decided we needed to get our CF-L1, and own our own box. This sport is so full of the sense of community and support, the thought of going back to a corporate gym is extremely unappealing to me.

Hi, I'm Eric. I love to lift weights and do gritty workouts. Grace is one of my all time favorites, with Karen being a close second. If I could just snatch and backsquat all the time I would be very happy, but I can't so sometimes I do pull-ups and burpees. I am working towards a 600lb deadlift and my first strict muscle up. I train hard so everything I do in the outdoors gets easier.

I have been a personal trainer and a coach since 2011. I coach CrossFit, weightlifting and powerlifting with Special Olympics of Bemidji. My favorite thing about being a coach is seeing people progress and become more confident in themselves. The lightbulb moment when something clicks with an athlete is something I will never get tired of.

I look forward to meeting you and seeing you in the gym!

Hey there! I’m Tanya! I’m a coach here at CFB, Facilities Manager and a mom to 4 amazing kids ranging in age from 6 to 19 😬 3 boys and 1 girl. A normal night at my house consists of nerf wars, dance parties and I also put on amazing lip syncing performances.

I’ve tried so many different styles of fitness trying to find one that really challenged me. I tried kettlebell classes, zumba, circuit training, boxing and pole fitness. I loved them all but the same thing over and over wasn’t working for me. A friend insisted I try CrossFit. With the support of a girlfriend, we went to our first class. I fell in love instantly. I’ve been with CrossFit Bemidji since Sep 2016. I love everything about it. The owners, the other trainers, the athletes.. the community of it all. It’s changed me in ways I didn’t even know were possible. The physical changes are nice but the mental strength I’ve gained is what I’ll forever be grateful for.

Rule #1 of CrossFit.. tell everyone that you do CrossFit.  Ya, I was one of those haters. But guys, it’s so true!

I grew up playing competitive sports including hockey, cross-country, track and field, softball, and anything else that I could justify wearing active wear for.  I came to Bemidji, MN to play hockey, and graduated with a Physical Education degree. After hockey, I thought I could self sufficiently keep myself motivated and ‘in-shape’ with a run every now and then, and a kettlebell swing here and there.

When I was 'working out', I kept hearing about CrossFit from my brother Josh, and his wife, Kaylee.  Try CrossFit they said.. You’ll love it they said.  After about a year of giving the empty ‘sure’ response, the real change came after I met my sister-in-law’s CrossFit friends at her bachelorette party.  After a fun weekend, I realized I was missing something, something that competitive sports offered.. the camaraderie.  I finally checked out CrossFit Bemidji and the rest is history.  I was instantly hooked, humbled, and the newest member of CrossFit Bemidji that same day.  Being a part of a team, the daily socialization with individuals with a common goal and passion for a healthier tomorrow, and the daily chit-chat with the community that CF builds is truly next to none.

I have been a CrossFit athlete for 3 years and now have my CF-L1 cert.  I love being a part of the daily grind CrossFit offers, seeing other athletes of different ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to infinitely scale their workouts to make them be the best possible versions of themselves.

I train at CF from time to time to fill needs outside of my full time job as a PA at the walk in clinic.  I love the opportunity to come here and share knowledge with the athletes and encourage them to see their strengths! I love being a part of a team that is in the business of building community and helping athletes succeed in their goals.

I have 3 kids & have been married for 14 yrs.  I LOVE being outside, doing most anything.  Sprint triathlons are my favorite part time hobby.  My goals for the future are to work on my swimming, travel more (probably mostly doing mission trips), and keep doing well in my occupation so I can get my oldest through college!

I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this community and for everyone’s presence here at CFBJ!! ❤️

I joined CrossFit Bemidji as an athlete in the summer of 2019 after moving to town. As a lifelong athlete and fitness professional, I enjoy CrossfFtting for the health/fitness gains as well as the competition and community. Before relocating to Bemidji, I was a high school strength and conditioning teacher, head wresting coach, co-head strength and conditioning coach, and assistant track and field coach at a South Carolina D2 University. I enjoy coaching at CFB because it provides an opportunity to continue to challenge athletes to be the best possible versions of themselves.

As an undergraduate student I competed as a Pole Vaulter on the University of Minnesota Track and Field team. When not coaching/training at CFB, I enjoy hanging out with family, hunting with my dog Goldy, cheering for the Gophers and the Vikings, and doing projects in the garage.

CF-L1, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist

I moved to Bemidji a few years ago with my chocolate and yellow lab to attend BSU. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Exercise Science with plans to become an Exercise Physiologist. My favorite thing to do in the gym is anything involving a heavy barbell. My hobbies outside of the gym are camping/hiking in the mountains, days paddle-boarding at the lake, taking my pups to Movil Maze here in town, and playing pond hockey when I can!

Hi my name is Tyler Hemp and I was born and raised right here in Bemidji. I went to school for criminal justice but I now work as a firefighter here in Bemidji. When I am not at the gym I enjoy spending time with friends and family and enjoying the outdoors as much as possible.

Kim - Yoga Instructor

I’m originally from Bemidji, and studied Communtiy Health and Exercise Science at Bemidji State. Starting in 2013, I discovered my love for teaching a variety of group fitness classes while working in corporate wellness in the Twin Cities, and yoga was one of my favorites. I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Replenish Yoga & Wellness in International Falls in 2018, and have been teaching yoga at CrossFit Bemidji since January 2019! I’ve also held my Personal Trainer certification through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) since 2013.

I’ve been a member at CFB since August 2018, and absolutely love the energy that comes from a morning workout here. I find that yoga compliments CrossFit really well. It’s so important to take the time to pay attention to our bodies, breathing, and headspace. When we don’t tune in, we find ourselves wondering why we feel so out of control! Yoga is for everyone, so don’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise (including yourself.) It may take some time to learn the “moves” and the lingo, but who the heck ever heard of a WOD or a thruster before starting CrossFit? In yoga, we call our time on the mat our “practice” for a reason.

In my free time I really enjoy cooking, hiking, camping, reading and watching movies. My husband Travis, and doggo Finley are usually close by! If we’ve already met, I’m glad to know you. If we haven’t, I hope to meet you soon!

Bri - Mobility/Support

I'm excited to join the trainers team from an injury prevention perspective. I have been a part of CrossFit Bemidji since July and have really enjoyed meeting the community and challenging myself with the workouts! I work as a physical therapist at Sanford Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic and enjoy working with a variety of conditions, but especially the athletic population. My classes and programming include rehab/prehab work to empower people to understand how to take care of their bodies. When I'm not at work or in the gym, I enjoy being outside with my dog, watching Minnesota sports teams, and drinking a good cup of coffee.
